While all group members collaborated at all stages, my work was primarily on the UX/UI design of the app.
Context
This project is a system of wearable devices supported by an application to help amateurs progress in the sports of Bouldering or Rock Climbing. With the aim of unifying mind and body, the system helps to bridge the gap between beginners and professionals by giving the user the power to improve autonomously.
Problem Statement
Users of climbing gyms often climbing solo, making it difficult to receive feedback from peers.
Beginner rock climbers find it difficult to bridge the gap in full body awareness that more advanced climbers have.
The research focus of this project are the activities of beginners and casual climbers as they self learn rock climbing in climbing gyms. We asked the following question:
How Might We help self coaching of rock climbers be supported by ergonomic analysis and machine learning?
Process
The process began with research into physical practices in which the mind-body connection could be aided by a digital artefact.
After rock climbing was chosen, we commenced fieldwork. The indoor climbing centre was the location where we conducted design research, bodystorming, and contextual enquiry.
Interviews, workshops and a wearable prototype were all part of the design process. Click the link below for more detail.
